"Chasing Ice: Visiting the impressive glaciers in Partagonia”
A few years ago we flew from Argentina to El Calafate and there we had a unique life experience and it was unforgettable. The flight time was about 3 hours.
Patagonia is located further south than Sydney. One of the most impressive trips I have done so far in my life– visiting the glaciers in El Calafate, Argentina.
EL CALAFATE
El Calafate is a super cute little town, which could also be in Canada. There were many stores and restaurants. The first night we slept at Los Ponchos, a very cute boutique hotel that I highly recommend. On our first day we visited the Glacier Museum to get an overview and learn more about the glaciers before heading out the next day.
BOAT CRUISE
The next morning we went on the MarPatag Cruise, where we spent 2 unforgettable days to experience the natural wonder up close.A super nice and luxurious cruise with wonderful cabins, with a cozy living area and a beautiful dining room. We loved to play cards in the upper deck from the boat, where it was very warm and we could enjoy a 360 view around, because The whole boat was more or less made out of glass, so you cold always enjoy the best view no matter where you were on the boat. The trip was absolutely fantastic. The first day we visited the Glacier Spegazzini, which was very impressive.Since we were on the boat we could go as close as possible to the glacier and see the gigantic icecaps fall into the water. We were so lucky, no other tourists in sight. It was spectacular!!
HIKE
The next morning we woke up to a wave crashing against the boat, which was caused by a huge chunk of ice falling into the water. We were more than ready to see the world famous Perito Moreno Glacier, which is one of the only glaciers still growing. First we went on the main land, where we walked a trail too get the best overview of the glacier. The view was breath taking. It was amazing to take photos there and listen the icecaps crashing into the water.
